Control Center & Rule Engine

With Control Center, you can view and manage all of your bids and budgets from different networks in one place. Optimize your campaign performance and spending in just a few clicks, without ever leaving your dashboard.

Then, to leverage the full power of automation, use the Rule Engine to automatically change bids and budgets for campaigns that don’t meet your benchmarks. 

Bid and budget values

Bid and budget management is available for reports with at least Campaign-level optimization. If your report doesn’t have this, you’ll see an exclamation mark (!) in the cell. 

To get started, here’s a quick explanation of these terms. 

Daily Budget

Your daily budget shows the total amount of money you have allocated per day for a campaign. This typically controls the number of ads served, as the budget will not be exceeded.

Bid

Your bid shows the acquisition price of an ad display. This typically controls the pace of the campaign, ensuring the budget is spent at a stable speed. 

High bid: You outspend other bidders to guarantee ad displays, quickly exhausting your budget. 

Low bid: You update your bids infrequently but target multiple campaign levels.

View your display

Control Center calculates what data to display in the Bid and Budget columns depending upon your network, campaign, and report configuration. When an individual value cannot be calculated, the sub-values display instead.

By default, values are displayed to 2 decimal places. However, if you enter more precise values we will still send this to networks to allow the greatest data accuracy. Bid and budget are loaded asynchronously to the rest of the Report columns. This is represented by the Loading sign (spinning arrow).

Multiple bids for different sub-levels, some of which are set to Auto and some having real values. Mixed can also be used as a default for higher-level aggregate.

Linked values

When your dimensions are too granular, certain campaign values can be shared across multiple rows. These are shown as Linked (chain icon) and can be edited as a group.

Example: If your bids are set at the campaign level but you’re viewing a report of adgroups, all the bids are linked.

Currency

Attributes (Bid & Budget) are displayed and edited in the original currency defined by the Network. All metrics are displayed in the app’s reporting currency. 

Control Center does not yet support currency conversion. Totals are calculated as if the currency is the same across all apps. If your report contains apps that operate in different currencies, you will see a warning message.

Update attributes

Control Center makes it easy to update your bids and budgets, and leverage the full power of campaign optimization. 

When you make a change, it is applied to the campaign level your report is set at.

For example, to change Creative attributes you need to configure the report to the creative level. Changes cannot be applied to attributes set to update automatically.  

There are 2 ways to manually update attributes. 

Inline editing

Make changes to a bid or budget directly in the table. You can only change one value at a time and only for one attribute at a time. 

To make an inline update, follow these steps. 

  1. Select the value to update
  2. Enter the new value 
  3. Select Accept (checkmark icon) 

Changes are automatically saved and sent to the network. Learn more about Change Statuses to see how you can follow their progress. 

Bulk editing

Save time and change multiple bids with a single bulk edit. This lets you keep track of all changes you make and reduces the chance for error. 

Use the following syntax to make changes to Attributes.

To make a bulk edit, follow these steps. 

  1. Select the rows in the left-hand column
  2. Using the correct syntax, add your changes to the pop-up fields
  3. Select Save for Review or SUBMIT NOW

SUBMIT NOW immediately sends your changes to networks.

Save for Review requires your changes to be approved in the Change History before being sent. 

Change History

In Change History, you can see all the changes made by any user on your Control Center account. 

Here, you can review all past changes to Attributes and those awaiting approval. Changes awaiting approval can still be edited. 

To view the changes that are awaiting approval, set the Status filter to Pending. Then, select a row and use the pop-up to approve or discard. 

Change status

Each time a change that is made to an Attribute it carries a status. This lets you know whether the change has been made effective or not. Use the table below to help monitor your change statuses.

The approved change is held in an internal queue. This happens when there are many changes to be sent to the Network.

The change could not be sent to the network for an internal reason.

Rule Engine

With the Rule Engine, you can bring the full power of automation to your campaigns. Create rules based upon the metrics of your choice, then let Rule Engine run the calculations and set changes. All you need to do is review and accept. Not only does this save hours from your daily routine, but it also eliminates the risk of human error. 

Set up automatic rules

To set up automatic rules, first create a report with the level of customization you need. This means ensuring your campaign levels are set, all the Metrics you need are included, and filters set up. Once your report is final, follow these steps. 

  1. Save your report
  2. Select the Thunderbolt icon
  3. Enter the rule you would like to apply (use the same syntax as for Bulk Edits)
  4. Select RUN DAILY

Great job! The Rule Engine is now working with your report. Rules are triggered daily at 5am UTC. Simply go to your Change History to approve or decline changes. 

Note: Reports working with the Rule Engine are marked with a yellow thunderbolt next to their name.

Manage automatic rules

To change, disable, or delete an automatic rule, follow these steps. 

Change a rule

Quickly change a rule to update a bid or budget value. 

  1. Open your report 
  2. Select the Yellow Thunderbolt icon
  3. Enter the new bid and/or budget values
  4. Select Update

Disable a rule

When you disable a rule, it pauses the automation. The rule settings are saved and can be re-enabled at any time.

  1. Open your report 
  2. Select the Yellow Thunderbolt icon
  3. Select DISABLE

Reports with disabled rules show a Grey Thunderbolt icon. To re-enable a rule, follow the steps above but select ENABLE.  

Delete a rule

Delete a rule to permanently remove it from your report. 

  1. Open your report 
  2. Select the Yellow Thunderbolt icon
  3. Select REMOVE AUTOMATION 
  4. Select DELETE to confirm your selection

FAQs

How quickly are bids and budgets updated after they’re changed in the dashboard?

The change usually reflects on the network very quickly, within seconds. However, during periods of high load updates are queued and there could be a delay of a few minutes.

What happens in the event my bid and budget updates are rejected?

The data we receive is pulled using reliable, stable APIs. In the unlikely event that this is disrupted, we have built-in pipeline fallbacks that queue changes. We then deliver them to networks as quickly as possible once service is restored. Even in the event of high volume, this should not exceed a couple of hours.

How often is cost data updated?

This depends upon the network. It can be hourly, but for some networks it is daily. 

We recommend using data that is at least 24 hours old as a performance benchmark. This ensures the accuracy of your optimizations, as the asynchronous arrival of same-day data can cause KPI variations.

How can I use Rule Engine to help with my campaign optimization?

Automating your campaign management can help save you not only time but also money. 

For example, if you are not seeing baseline returns from a campaign, Rule Engine can simply pause it. 

When are rule changes made to my campaigns?

Automated actions are created in the Pending state and require user’s approval in Change History before they have any effect in the network. Automated report actions are triggered every day at 5 AM UTC.
