Subscriptions

Subscriptions is Adjust's solution for subscription-based app marketers with apps on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. With this solution, you can record subscription events and revenue throughout a user's journey.

For example, enable subscriptions to measure signups for free trials, and then measure conversions from trials to paying subscribers. You can view subscription metrics in Datascape reports, and analyze the value of your marketing spend.

Here are some of the key uses of Adjust's Subscriptions solution:

  • Use cohorted revenue metrics to understand return on ad spend (ROAS).
  • Use multiple dimensions to get granular reports and optimize your marketing efforts based on your subscription strategy and goals. For example, get a breakdown of the number of activations in your app by the Product ID dimension, a unique identifier of your subscription product.
  • Dig deeper into conversion rates for cohort periods from one event to another.
  • Analyze subscription revenue performance including conversions, renewals and cancellations per channel.
  • Set up server callbacks for subscriptions to receive data to your servers in real-time, as soon as an event is triggered. You can use this data to re-engage with your users immediately.
  • Share subscription callbacks, including data for subscription events, with partners.

Why should you upgrade to the new version?

After you upgrade to the new version of Subscriptions, you'll notice the following improvements.

  • Event types and subtypes are less complex. The new version has a single layer of 17 predefined events that cover more event types. Recording events becomes simpler and more granular.

For example, in the previous version, the Activation event included initial subscriptions and trials. The Cancellation event included expirations and cancellations. Now, you get separate events for trials, activations, expirations, and cancellations.

  • The previous version only allowed you to measure the number of times users converted from a free trial to subscribed users. With this upgrade, you can use the Conversion rates metric to check the number of times a subscription converted from a previous relevant status.

    • discounted offer → renewal
    • activation → renewal
    • renewal → cancellation
  • In the previous version, you were able to use custom event names for subscriptions to share data with third-parties, partner callbacks, and in reports. With this enhanced version of Subscriptions, you can use standardized events and metrics to simplify your subscription setup and reporting in Adjust.

Adjust stores subscription data in a separate database from attribution data.

To set up Subscriptions for your account, follow these steps.

  1. Set up the minimum Adjust SDK version in your app.
  2. Set up your iOS app or Google Play Android app.
  3. Enable subscriptions for your app in Adjust.
  4. Use subscription data to understand the value of your marketing spend and optimize future campaigns.
